Carbon Neutral EOL Champions the Environment
A company which is among the UK leaders in environmental awareness in industry is practising what it preaches by achieving its CarbonNeutral® fleet status.
For more than a decade EOL IT Services has been providing a highly-successful service which allows for the reuse of redundant IT equipment. As a result the Essex based company has made a massive contribution to the saving of material resources.
Thousands of refurbished PCs, laptops, printers etc. have been reused and countless tonnes of metal, glass and plastics have been saved from being dumped in the UK’s hard-pressed landfill sites. Its contribution to the saving of carbon emissions is immense.
Now EOL has contributed even further to the improvement of the environment by being accredited CarbonNeutral® fleet status for all its collections and deliveries. This means that all carbon emissions for their logistics and traffic management have been neutralised to net zero through offsetting with The CarbonNeutral Company.
EOL IT Services Managing Director Richard Parker said: “Through its activities from the very start the EOL ethos has been about a service that benefits the environment.”
“We were also very aware of the impact of our own activities and that working on a zero landfill policy was not the end of the matter. We needed to address the carbon emissions created by our vehicle fleet and we have done that. I am very pleased that the result is that we have been designated carbon neutral in those areas of operations.”
EOL has chosen to offset its annual transport CO2 emissions, as calculated by The CarbonNeutral Company, by supporting a wind farm project in India. It provides enough power for 13,500 homes and reduces India’s heavy reliance on coal for its electricity.
Mr Parker added: “Before taking this step we carried out in depth research into alternative methods of reducing carbon emissions. One option was to use bio-fuels but our research showed an adverse affect on food production and, therefore, this was discounted as unworkable. The second option was to run electric vehicles; however the infrastructure for this method is not yet in place in the UK.”
Sue Welland, Founder and Creative Director, The CarbonNeutral Company said, “Often over 25% of a company’s carbon footprint can be attributed to business travel. Reducing those emissions makes good business sense – for the climate, for the balance sheet and for reputation. We are pleased to support the measures that EOL are doing within their company to become more environmentally responsible and actively to tackle climate change.”
EOL has also reinforced its green credentials by claiming a hat-trick of Business in the Community (BITC) Big Tick Awards. For the third successive year it has come out on top of the Eco-Efficiency category.
