WEEE disposal and recycling
In addition to computer recycling, EOL IT Services also holds Environment Agency approval for the treatment of general electrical items under the terms of the Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) Directive.
The aim of this Legislation is to reduce the amount of electrical waste going to landfill and to encourage recycling and reuse.

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations apply to electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) in the categories listed below with a voltage of up to 1000 volts for alternating current or up to 1500 volts for direct current.
You will need to comply with the WEEE Regulations if you generate, handle or dispose of waste that falls under any of the categories:
- Large household appliances - excludes ODS fridges/freezers
- Small household appliances (e.g. toaster, kettle, vacuum cleaner)
- IT and telecommunications equipment - excludes CRTs
- Consumer equipment (e.g. videos, radio, hi-fi) – excludes CRTs
- Lighting equipment - excluding fluorescent tubes
- Electrical and electronic tools (e.g. drills, saws, sewing machines)
- Toys, leisure and sports equipment (e.g. electric trains, video games)
- Medical Devices - excludes contaminated items
- Monitoring and control instruments (e.g. smoke detector, thermostats)
- Automatic dispensers (e.g. vending machines)
- Cooling equipment including category 10 devices with cooling
- Display equipment (CRTs) including plasma and LCD
- Gas discharge lamps (e.g. fluorescent tubes)
There are some exemptions under the WEEE Regulations for certain EEE and they include:
- EEE intended to protect national security and for military purposes
- Products where electricity in not the main power source
- Products where the electrical or electronic components are not needed to fulfil the primary function
- Electrical equipment that is part of another type of equipment
- Large scale stationary industrial tools
- Household luminaries
- Filament Light bulbs
- Implanted and infected medical devices
