By providing a service for clients to allow for reuse of their redundant IT assets, the client is allowing the saving of material resources, which would have been required to build new IT equipment. This, in turn, results in a saving of carbon emissions.
EOL IT Services is very aware of the impact of its own activities and that working on a zero landfill policy is not the end of the matter. We need to address the carbon emissions created by our processing procedures and our fleet of vehicles.
EOL operates an efficient logistics strategy with effective traffic management and have received the endorsement of The CarbonNeutral Company for the offsetting of our logistics carbon emissions for our vehicle fleet.
This means that EOL is “CarbonNeutral®” for all its collections and deliveries.
The CarbonNeutral Company has calculated our annual transportation C02 emissions and this year (2009-2010) we have chosen to offset these emissions by supporting a solar lighting project in India which reaches areas not served by the electrical grid system and where kerosene is most commonly used for lighting. Not only is the quality of kerosene lighting very poor it also produces high levels of C02 and polluting smoke which gets trapped within homes.
Carbon finance is helping communities to withdraw this traditional energy source and replace it with "clean" solar panels installed in roofs which can supply lighting and energy. Not only is this better for health, but it helps promote local industry - because it makes possible even simple things like working in the evening on sewing machines for crafts.
We have been assessed by Carbon Footprint Ltd. for our processing procedures and they fully endorse the approach of EOL IT Services in reducing the carbon emissions of others by the process of providing reuse for redundant IT assets.
The “Carbon Footprint Approved” programme provides an independently verified way to demonstrate the responsibility of our processes.
We are pleased to have met their criteria and to have received the endorsement of Carbon Footprint Ltd.
