Your unwanted equipment could be recycled, redeployed, or resold; however, whatever the solution you choose, it is critical that all existing data and identification is removed from your storage media.
There are three major areas of risk:
- Your hard discs or other storage media could contain confidential customer or employee information that could breach legislation such as the Data Protection Act if it was released accidentally.
- You could compromise your own competitiveness if sensitive commercial information is left on the storage media.
- Software licensing agreements could be breached if programs are not removed.
Data Erasure Procedures
EOL continually evaluates the offerings from authors of data erasure programs to ensure the highest standards of security. We are once more leading the way through an accredited partnership with Blancco UK.We use exacting, quality-controlled, fully documented procedures to ensure 100% erasure of your data and identification. Below is an example of our processes relating to data & identification erasure:
- An initial wipe of the hard drive is carried out using Blancco Software via the LAN connection.
- If successful, a “Hard Drive Sanitised” label is attached to the item as confirmation of erasure. The Engineer enters their name and date within the Data Erasure field as part of our internal recording and audit process.
- If the drive fails to wipe, it is removed from the PC Department and securely transferred to our Parts Department.
- Here it is connected to a US DoD 5220.22-M approved WipeMaster Wiping Rig where a second attempt to wipe the drive is carried out.
- If data still remains, the drive is punched through using an Industrial Fly Press.
- All punched drives are securely transported to our specialist metals recycling partner, using EOL transport and personnel, where they are ground down to their final powder state.
- Once wiped, tested and asset recoded any complete PC units for re-sale are then passed to our Equipment Preparation Department where all signs of previous ownership are removed or disguised.
