End-O-Line Ticks the Awards Boxes Again
For the second year running an Essex company has proved its green credentials in a national awards’ scheme.
End-O-Line (EOL) of Station Road, Maldon in Essex has held on to its Big Tick accolade awarded by Business in the Community (BITC).
EOL, which recycles redundant computer equipment, has won this year’s Eco-Efficiency title awarded for taking a comprehensive and innovative approach to reducing waste and natural resource use.
Holding on to the Big Tick it first won last year keeps EOL in the company of major brands such as Boots the Chemist, Ford Motor Company and Toyota.
EOL is one of the UK’s foremost independent IT asset disposal companies and operates a zero landfill policy. EOL’s Chairman Jan Smith will receive the second consecutive Big Tick award at a gala dinner on June 26 at Kings College, Cambridge.
Since it won the Big Tick award last year EOL has grown to 49 employees and turnover has increased by 15%.
Jim Haywood, BITC’s Director of Business in the Environment, said EOL’s comprehensive approach to diverting redundant IT equipment from landfill is an excellent example of how environmental innovation can create new market opportunities.
He added: “EOL is not only refurbishing, reselling and recycling IT waste but walking the talk by using secondhand IT themselves and offering free and discounted equipment to schools and charities, promoting environmental responsibility to a wide audience.”
The Big Tick judges were impressed by EOL operating a zero landfill policy and also ensuring that partner companies also process waste correctly. Also impressive, they said, was the company’s diligence to internal audits and that all IT equipment and networking systems used within EOL is pre-used and has gone through its recycling procedures.
EOL was recently chosen by the Environment Agency, through a case study, as a shining example of good practice and positive environmental efforts.
EOL Managing Director Richard Parker, who conducts personal “Waste Walks” through the company’s offices and warehouse, said: “We are very pleased that not only have we won another Big Tick but that our green credentials continue to be recognised. I would like to thank all our staff for the part they play in our environmental efforts.”
